Gratallops, August 2026. — The 2026 harvest has begun at Buil Giné. Once again, the landscape of Priorat changes its rhythm as the vineyards enter one of the most important moments of their annual cycle: the harvesting of the grapes that will give birth to the new vintage.

The 2026 harvest is beginning earlier than last year, as a result of an earlier ripening cycle. High temperatures recorded throughout much of the summer have accelerated vine development, requiring the Buil Giné team to closely monitor each individual plot in order to determine the optimal time to harvest.

In a region such as Priorat, where differences in orientation, altitude and soil create distinct ripening patterns, harvest cannot be dictated by a single calendar. Every plot has its own moment. For this reason, Buil Giné’s technical team continuously monitors grape development before deciding when to pick, with the aim of preserving the balance between ripeness, freshness, acidity and a true expression of the terroir.

“Harvest begins when the grapes are ready, not when the calendar says so. This year the cycle has advanced, which means we have to be even more attentive. In Priorat, every plot responds differently, and our role is to understand those signals and harvest each grape at the right moment.”

The early start to the harvest is also part of a broader trend affecting wine-growing regions across Spain. Higher temperatures are leading to faster vegetative cycles and increasingly early harvests, a reality that is prompting the wine sector to progressively adapt its viticultural and winemaking practices.

For Buil Giné, this reality reinforces a conviction that lies at the heart of its way of understanding Priorat: knowing the land also means knowing how to listen to it and adapt to it.

The harvest will progress gradually over the coming weeks, moving through the different plots as the grapes reach their optimum level of ripeness. Grenache, Carignan and the other varieties cultivated by the winery will gradually arrive at the cellar, where a new process of transformation will begin.

Beyond the beginning of a new harvest, the vintage represents the start of a new story for Buil Giné. Because every vintage is different: each one is born from the same land, yet each tells a different story.
