Highest recognition for our GINÉ GINÉ, the wine that introduces the Priorat to the world, also recognized as one of the 100 Best Wines of 2021.

GINÉ GINÉ 2019 has been awarded the Gold Medal and “Best of Show Priorat” by MUNDUS VINI, an annual contest organized by the prestigious German magazine Meininger Verlag. This is the new vintage of GINÉ GINÉ that has just hit the market. It is an iconic wine for BUIL & GINÉ as it is the first reference that we began to produce, and leads the entry into the market of the brand in 1996.

GINÉ GINÉ represents the introduction to the Priorat: a wine designed to reveal the essence of the Priorat through its most distinctive features –local varieties, terroir and minerality– and within everyone’s reach. “My goal was to make a wine that everyone would like and understand, versatile and representative of our wine region. In my period back as a university student, my friends almost never brought a Priorat wine at our meet-ups. Mainly because it was very difficult to find any in shops. But also, when they did, I was the one who drank the wine simply because they could’nt understand it” _explains Xavier Buil, founder and CEO.

“A true Priorat”

The MUNDUS VINI tasting panel highlights GINÉ GINÉ 2019 for its limpidity/clarity, genuineness and aromatic intensity (nose and taste), enhancing the high concentration of fruit (red berries, cherries) of the wine. With body and structure, it is jammy and fresh, with integrated acidity and ageing potential. Undertones of aromatic herbs such as eucalyptus and mint, and spices such as pepper bring out the mineral character of Priorat wines.

A wine made from local varieties

GINÉ GINÉ is made from Grenache and Carignan from vineyards in different villages of the Priorat. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel vats with no added yeast. The maceration with the skins is long. The malolactic fermentation is done in French oak barrels. Then the blending proceeds and the wine transferred to stainless steel vats for ageing and then bottling.

GINÉ GINÉ, revealing the essence of Priorat to the world

The award of MUNDUS VINI follows the good reception by the international critics of GINÉ GINÉ 2018 in 2021, and denotes the consistency of the vintages. In this sense, it is worth mentioning the also prestigious magazine Wine & Spirits, in this case in the US market. Selected as one of the “Top 100 Wines for 2021”, GINÉ GINÉ received 95 points and the distinction of “Best Buy” for the excellent value for money of the wine. These awards reinforce the first will of BUIL & GINÉ: to offer a Priorat wine within the reach of a large public that transmits essentially what the Priorat is.
